Hazel Rogers is a freelance writer and cold water swimmer. She makes a lot of bread in her spare time. The poem, Becoming Earth, is based upon an experience of sleep paralysis Hazel had some years ago, whereupon she found she could no longer move from bed while strange visions came from corners of her room. Hazel writes predominantly cultural perspective articles on themes such as philosophy, psychogeography, literature, and music.

Of her work, Hazel says:

‘The idea for this poem developed from an experience of sleep paralysis, whereupon I couldn’t move my body but felt as though other beings – or energies – were stirring within me as I lay there. I reimagined this event as the death of my physical body enabling new life to emerge in the form of the germination of various flora and other vegetation.’
