Belonging
/bɪˈlɒŋ.ɪŋ/
What does Belonging mean to you?
It could be said that having a sense of belonging is one of our most basic needs, a need for us to feel an affiliation for a particular group, where we can feel secure, included, embraced and welcomed. It is about having an affinity for a place, a situation or a set of common beliefs. It is something that binds us to other people and places, fosters loyalty and shapes our own individual identities. But does this sense of belonging originate through self selected mythologising, selective historical remembrance or blind adherence to what we are told we should believe? What consequences are there for those who do not belong, for the outsider, or for those who are desperate to belong and be accepted at all costs? As always the theme is open to interpretation.
Submissions are now open for our next é-zine on the theme of 'Belonging'.
Submissions will close on 30th June 2024.
